For explosive power development, you really can't beat plyometric training! Plyo box jumps have been an integral part of athletics training programs for decades. By forcing the increased recruitment of more fast twitch muscle fibres, plyometric work gives you greater acceleration, faster application of power and better results in a wide range of competitive sports.
As the majority of our power comes from the quads and posterior chain, it makes sense to focus on these areas first. This is where the plyo box can be used to great effect. You can start on a smaller box, and work your way up to higher and higher boxes. Top athletes have been known to jump on to 1m high boxes, holding a 20kg dumbbell in each hand! Needless to say, these are elite athletes who have spent years progressing to higher and higher jumps. These are also athletes at the top of their game thanks in part to their focus on the development of explosive power, alongside their strength training program.
Manufactured from welded steel box tubing frames, our plyo boxes have been built tough, like all our gear is! There is a generous 150kg weight limit for these boxes, as the 12mm plywood top is supported by steel cross bracing underneath. In order to maintain a good level of grip we've laid a ribbed rubber strip accross the top. We have powdercoated the frames in black which results in minimal marking, and keeps the boxes looking good.
